Mexican international finally set to leave the Emirates Stadium?
Arsenal striker Carlos Vela is closing in on a switch to Real Sociedad and could move in 10-15 days according to Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has given no indication that Vela has a future at the Emirates Stadium and Arsenal have sent the Mexican international on four separate loan deals during the past five seasons, including the 2011/12 campaign where he impressed at Basque side coached by Philippe Montanier.
Spanish newspaper Marca recently claimed the La Liga side were willing to make the Mexican international the highest earner at the club by offering him a four-year deal at the Anoeta, however there were reported problems with the £6million Arsenal rate the player at.
Having spent upwards of £23m on attackers Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski and with the intention of offering Robin Van Persie, and other top performers, new improved contracts it seems likely Arsene Wenger will look to trim his squad and Carlos Vela looks like nearing a move back to Real Sociedad.
The Mexican international spent last term on loan at the La Liga side, finishing as the club’s top scorer with 12 goals, for the past month or so the Spanish side have been haggling over the asking price for the 23 year old.
Wenger has already released Manuel Almunia and will probably look to sell Sebastien Squillaci, Nicklas Bendtner and may listen to offers for Denilson and Andrei Arshavin to help balance the books.
Vela has been at Arsenal for almost seven years, albeit much of that sent out on loan, but has managed just three Premier League starts in that time. Overall the Cancun born forward has netted 11 goals in 64 appearances for the Gunners, of which 45 came from the bench.
