Urugyuan could replace Spurs target.
Diego Forlan’s impending switch to Brazilian club Internacional could pave the way for Leandro Damiao to join Tottenham Hotspur.
Forlan is set to end his unhappy spell with Serie A giants Inter Milan by signing for the South American Inter this week, according to Spanish paper El Pais.
The 33-year-old could replace long-term Spurs target Damiao, 22, who has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane ever since Spurs signed a strategic partnership with Inter two years ago.
Damiao’s compatriot Sandro made the switch in summer 2010 and has become a huge hit in north London with a series of combative displays.
But the striker has been reluctant to move to Europe despite admitting interest and an offer from the Lilywhites in the past.
However, Forlan’s arrival in Porto Alegre could finally free up Inter to agree a fee with Tottenham and Damiao may be tempted by the prospect of working with Portuguese boss-in-waiting Andre Villas-Boas, with whom he shares a first language.
