Rodgers keen on Villains wide-man.
Liverpool are set to raid Aston Villa for winger Marc Albrighton.
In a move that will underwhelm the Anfield faithful, boss Brendan Rodgers is preparing a £5 million bid for the 22-year-old who he believes has the potential to challenge for a place in Liverpool’s first team next season.
Albrighton, who can play on the right or left wing, has made 59 league appearances for Villa in three seasons, scoring 7 times, but was often left on the bench last term by former boss Alex McLeish.
Rodgers, however, is an admirer of the tricky youngster, who is capable of taking free-kicks and corners. The Northern Irish boss is yet to make a signing since moving to Merseyside from Swansea City last month but has identified his midfield and attack as in most need of strengthening.
New Villa boss Paul Lambert has yet to assess his squad – with preseason set to start on Saturday – and is reluctant to part with any players before he has had a chance to work with them.
