Gianfranco Zola set to become Watford boss

Sean Dyche has been sacked as Watford manager, paving the way for Gianfranco Zola to be appointed as his successor, BBC Sport has learned.
It is understood Dyche was given the news at Vicarage Road on Monday.

Watford’s new owners, the Pozzo family, say they already have a verbal agreement with Zola to become manager.

The former Italy international was previously West Ham boss for two years but he parted company with them in May 2010.

Sean Dyche may well feel aggrieved at his dismissal but it’s been on the cards since the Pozzo family took over as the owners of the Vicarage Road side.

Dyche guided Watford to their highest finish in four years, 11th, but has been axed to make way for former West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola who is set to become the club’s new manager in the coming days.

The 45 year old former Chelsea star had a fairly poor spell in charge of West Ham from September 2008 until May 2010, during which time the East London collected 23 wins and 36 defeats.
