Tottenham Boss Villas-Boas Plots £70m Spree Starting With Chelsea Pair Raid

New White Hart Lane boss plans move to bring in former Stamford Bridge charges.

The rumours are that Andre Villas-Boas will be handed a £70m transfer kitty when confirmed as Tottenham manager this week and it is 6/4 that he heads back to former club Chelsea to use some before the end of the transfer window.

It is 15/8 in the Premier League odds that Tottenham finish in the top four this season and if Villas-Boas is to achieve this feat, keeping much-coveted duo Luka Modric and Gareth Bale seems a necessity.

He will then need to top up the squad with some new additions, with a central defender especially vital if Ledley King follows through on the speculation that he will be forced to retire because of injury.

Because of his ill-fated reign at Chelsea, the consensus is that Villas-Boas made few friends, particularly with the club’s older players.

However, he was an admirer of Daniel Sturridge, who then found chances almost nonexistent under Roberto Di Matteo.

Meanwhile, Raul Meireles may opt to follow his countryman across London as it was the opportunity to work with Villas-Boas that convinced him to leave Liverpool for Chelsea last summer.

Andre Villas-Boas didn’t really get a fair crack of the whip at Chelsea and the young Portuguese boss will hope to have more time to make an impact in North London than he did in West and a move to bring in this pair of Blues talents could be a wise way to improve Tottenham’s squad.

Having already completed a deal to sign Hoffenheim attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson the 34 year old former FC Porto man will look to first address the lack of firepower at White Hart Lane and a move for Daniel Sturridge could be a sensible one.

Villas-Boas showed great faith in Sturridge, albeit playing him mainly in a wide role, the Spurs boss may look to the England man to play in a central role given that Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale are first choice flankmen. Tottenham only have one recognised senior striker at present, Jermain Defoe, and appear unlikely to be looking to making the temporary move for Emmanuel Adebayor a permanent one.

Raul Meireles could offer another creative element to the Tottenham midfield, which may prove all the more necessary if they lose Luka Modric this summer.
