Brazilian in line for return to Portugal.
Benfica are interested in bringing Manchester United engine-man Anderson back to Portugal.
The Brazilian arrived at Old Trafford from Porto in 2007 but, after a strong start to his Old Trafford career, has faded and managed just 8 appearances last season due to injury.
Benfica are reportedly prepared to cash in on sought-after midfielder Axel Witsel and, according to Portuguese newspaper Record, boss Jorge Jesus sees Anderson as a potential replacement for the Belgian.
United have expressed an interest in Witsel, which has raised speculation that Benfica may demand Anderson as a makeweight in a possible deal.
Anderson was once billed as the long-term replacement for Paul Scholes but, after making 76 appearances in his first two seasons in Manchester and impressing with his all-action displays, he has succumbed to injuries, indiscipline and loss of form.
