Old Trafford side close in on Brazilian.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson wants to make Brazil’s next big thing – Sao Paulo starlet Lucas Moura – his big summer signing.
Fergie has sent a delegation headed by chief scout Jim Lawlor to thrash out a deal for the 19-year-old, who is also wanted by Chelsea and Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Ferguson is pleading with United’s owners, the Glazer family, to spend up to £30million on the youngster who tops his hit-list as he aims to improve his side after a trophyless season.
United have been on the Moura’s trail for months and invited his father to Old Trafford for talks – as Mirror Sport revealed in April.
Moura, who has already capped by his country, is valued at £35m by Sao Paolo, but United are looking at ways of bringing down the price while also winning over the player and his loved ones.
Now, they have gone to Brazil in a bid to seal the massive transfer.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with moves to bring a creative midfielder to the club this summer, the most notably repeated target being Luka Modric, but it appears that the Man United boss has chosen to push on with efforts to land Brazilian youngster Lucas Moura.
Chelsea have been strongly linked with the highly rated Sao Paulo man but were reportedly scared off by the asking price but the valuation doesn’t appear to have frightened off Ferguson as yet. This source claims that the Glazers are ready to stump up £30m for the teenager, a move that would come close to breaking the club’s record spend, currently £30.75m being the record fee which was paid to Tottenham for Dimitar Berbatov some four years ago.
The 19 year old Brazilian international has already made a seismic impact in his home country, notching up goals and assists a plenty over the past two and half seasons and already racking up 13 caps.
The attacking midfielder would add a cutting edge to a Man United first team that lacks a bit of guile and directness. Michael Carrick, Paul Scholes, Darren Fletcher and Anderson offer a lot but not much in the way of goals and assists. Ferguson has already endeavoured to resolve this issue by signing Japanese international Shinji Kagawa but may feel that another addition is needed in this regard.
