Newcastle United In Talks to Sign French International Mathieu Debuchy

Magpies chase Lille full-back.

Newcastle re-open talks with Lille over Mathieu Debuchy as Inter Milan circle

Newcastle United are closing in on the signature of Lille right-back Mathieu Debuchy, despite Inter Milan’s attempts to try and hijack the deal.

All action defender Debuchy is currently on holiday after turning out for France at Euro 2012, but is expected to return later this week, to hold talks with Lille over his future.

The French club expect Debuchy to confirm his intention to quit the club this summer, and Newcastle are hopeful they will be able to finally get their man, after a lengthy pursuit.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew re-opened talks with Lille late last week, in a bid to finally agree on a transfer, after the Ligue 1 side snubbed his opening £5 million offer for Debuchy a fortnight night ago.

However, Newcastle are set to face strong competition to tie up the transfer, with Inter Milan now ready to show their hand, as they prepare to offload veteran defender Maicon to Chelsea.

Alan Pardew has been chasing Mathieu Debuchy for some time now but the Lille full-back’s efforts at the Euro 2012 finals appear to have brought him to the attention of a few other interested parties. The 26 year old French international performed admirably despite Laurent Blanc’s side limping out at the Quarter Final stage.

Debuchy is set to be the latest to leave Lille with Stade Metropole boss Rudi Garcia having already lost Yohan Cabaye, Gervinho, Moussa Sow and Eden Hazard over the past 18 months.

Pardew is keen to land the impressive one club man as Danny Simpson is set to leave St James’ Park having not agreed a new deal with just 12 months to run on his current contract.
