Tottenham’s Steven Pienaar Set To Complete Everton Switch

Toffees return for Bafana Bafana skipper.

Steven Pienaar is set to complete his move from Tottenham Hotspur to Everton this week.

The South African international signed for Spurs from the Toffees for £3 million in January 2011 but struggled with form and fitness and was loaned back to Everton in January this year.

Along with Nikica Jelavic, Pienaar inspired an Everton rally as David Moyes team surged up the table, eventually finishing sixth, ahead of neighbours Liverpool.

The Bafana Bafana captain has made no secret of his desire to make a permanent return to Merseyside but Spurs managerial situation and Everton’s limited transfer budget had put the deal in some doubt.

But the two clubs have come to an agreement after Spurs new boss Andre Villas-Boas indicated that Pienaar was not in his plans for the new seasons and the 30-year-old is expected to re-sign for a fee of £5 million.

Pienaar made just ten league starts at White Hart Lane in an unhappy year but did impress in both legs of Spurs memorable Champions League last 16 victory over AC Milan.
