Arsenal forced to look at Lewandowski and Jovetic in hunt to replace skipper Van Persie
Arsenal’s scouting team will hold a meeting at the club’s London Colney HQ at the start of next week to discuss the prospect of replacing wantaway skipper Robin van Persie.
Sportsmail understands Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic and Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski were both watched by the scouts last season and will be on the agenda.
Van Persie is keen to have his exit finalised by the time the club’s Asia tour kicks off on July 24. It is understood that he would rather not be included in the squad that flies to Malaysia as it would delay his pending move.

Replacing Robin Van Persie will be a tough task and one that could set the North London club back financially, forcing the Gunners board to spend big, ironically it’s that lack of spending that may well have contributed to the Dutch goal machine’s decision to quit the club.
Click Manchester reported last month that Borussia Dortmund would not listen to offers of less than £40m for Polish forward Robert Lewandowski, a fee that Arsene Wenger will simply not pay. In fact the Arsenal manager would probably not be willing to pay even half that fee, even though in today’s transfer market there may well be a team who would do so.
The young forward is in the form of his career, notching up 30 goals in all competitions last term before becoming a Man United target prior to a fairly average display at the Euro 2012 finals.
A move for Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic would be a slightly cheaper option to take but the Daily Star stated just last week that Chelsea are lining up a £25m move for the Montenegrin and that the Serie A side were in talks with the West London club over a possible move.
Clearly if there is a bidding war between Chelsea and Arsenal there will be only one winner. This isn’t because the Gunners are not a side able to spend big sums, they are just a side who is unwilling to do so.
However perhaps all this talk of looking to replace Robin Van Persie is something of a moot point. Arsene Wenger did after all spend £23m to bring German forward Lukas Podolski and Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud to the club. He didn’t so on a whim, he probably did so full in the knowledge that he would lose his prized asset.
