Chelsea Full-Back Ashley Cole Linked With Shock Real Madrid Move

Stamford Bridge side set for sensational departure?

Ashley Cole in potential Chelsea exit

Chelsea defender Ashley Cole could be set for a sensational departure from Stamford Bridge, as ESPN can reveal there are no talks at present to renew a contract that has just one year to run.

Cole, who is two England games away from 100 caps, has one season left on his current deal in west London and is seemingly happy to run down his contract and become a free agent next summer.

Considering the enormous controversy surrounding Chelsea’s recruitment of Cole from Arsenal and the lengths the club went to in order to secure his services, it would be a major shock if the player, so synonymous with the Blues’ recent success, could be walking away on a free transfer.

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City and wealthy clubs from China and the Middle East will be queuing up to recruit Cole on what could be phenomenal wages given there will be no transfer fee.

Of the clubs mentioned who are said to be interested in Ashley Cole it may well prove that the Blues star is looking to move on either this summer or in a year’s time when his current deal comes to an end.

The consistent full-back will no doubt be of interest to former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho who may feel that the 31 year old is a better option than the two players who are currently fighting to fill the spot in his current Bernabeu squad, namely Marcelo and Fabio Coentrao.

It was of course Mourinho who helped persuade Cole to make the controversial move from Arsenal to Stamford Bridge back in August 2006. Since then the Chelsea man has been a virtual ever present, making 250 appearances in six seasons at the West London club.

Roberto Di Matteo would be loathed to lose the veteran defender but there were signs last term that 22 year old Ryan Bertrand was maturing into a very able performer, putting in a quality performance in an unfamiliar left wing role ahead of Cole during the Champions League final in Munich.
