Everton Boss Vows to Fight to Prevent Pair from Making Man United Move

Goodison Park boss to fight off Old Trafford interest.

EVERTON boss David Moyes today said that he would fight hard to keep Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines from Manchester United’s grasp.

Both players have been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, but Moyes is adamant they won’t leave without a fight.

Belgian midfielder Fellaini is also thought to be interesting Chelsea and Real Madrid, with Everton readying themselves for a series of bids for the £20million-rated star.

And they will also have to fight off advances for Baines, with United eyeing the left-back as a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra.

Moyes confirmed there had been interest in the duo, but vowed to do his best to hold on to his prize assets.

Everton boss David Moyes is all to familiar with his top performers being linked with ‘bigger’ clubs but in recent seasons the Scot has managed to keep hold of a nucleus of talent that has helped keep the Toffees in or around the top six but this summer could be his toughest yet.

Both Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini have served Everton well for a few seasons and may both feel that they have progressed as far as they can at the Goodison Park side, this makes them more susceptible to interest from the likes of Man United than say Jack Rodwell or Ross Barkley who have age on their side.

The Merseyside club are known to be operating under tight financial constraints and whilst Moyes may hope to bring in a player or two the Toffees boss has to pick and choose his targets carefully. The sale of one star player could help provide funds for three or four new signings and could help the club in the long run.

In January Moyes brought in Nikica Jelavic who impressed greatly and the Everton boss has now picked up Steven Naismith from Ibrox but no doubt has another two or three targets and the chances of keeping a star player from being sold depends very much on whether the Toffees boss can convince those in his squad that ambitions can be met despite the situation that the club finds themselves in.
