READING manager Brian McDermott has joined West Ham and QPR in the battle to sign Sunderland contract rebel Kieran Richardson.

Royals boss McDermott has already worked wonders this summer, bringing in Pavel Pogrebnyak, Danny Guthrie and Garath McCleary without spending a penny in transfer fees and now the newly promoted side are looking to add further top tier experience to their Madejski Stadium squad with a move for Sunderland’s Kieran Richardson.

Martin O’Neill doesn’t appear all that keen to give in to the former Man United midfielder’s wage demands and could therefore be willing to sell the 27 year old this summer.

Adaptable London born Richardson has made almost 150 Black Cats appearances in the five seasons since he moved to the Stadium of Light from West Brom but perhaps a move back down south will interest the one time England international.
