Arsenal Line Up £25m Serie A Starlet as Number One Target to Replace Robin Van Persie

Emirates Stadium side ready to dig deep to replace the irreplaceable.

ARSENAL and Tottenham are set to launch big-money transfer raids as they prepare for life without two of their biggest stars.

With Paris St-Germain, Juventus, Manchester City and Barcelona queueing up to pay up to £25million for the unsettled Robin van Persie, manager Arsene Wenger last night prepared to answer his critics with moves to replace him.

And as Real Madrid moved closer to the capture of Luka Modric, Spurs new boss Andre Villas-Boas has already earmarked where some of the £28m he is expected to get for the Croatian playmaker will go.

Wenger is understood to have Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic as his No.1 target, but he faces competition from Chelsea for a player who is also valued at around £25m.

Though Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is not known for splashing the cash and a move of this magnitude would smash the club’s transfer record fee, this may well be the time that the Gunners board sanction such a bid in order to appease a fan base that is getting sick and tired of seeing their top players flee.

Though the North London club have already brought in Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud there could still be room for a player like Jovetic who is more adept as a support striker or a player that can play behind the front-line. Wenger has a host of very average strikers on his books that he may look to offload to generate more funds.

Carlos Vela, Nicklas Bendtner, Marouane Chamakh and Park-Chu Young have all failed to make an impact and a move for Fiorentina youngster Stevan Jovetic would be a wise, if expensive, one to consider.

The Montenegrin matured last term and was far more effective attacking weapon for La Viola, netting 14 goals in 27 Serie A appearances.
