Didier Deschamps Appointed New French National Team Manager

Former Marseille boss takes over national team duties.

Didier Deschamps is poised to become the new France manager after holding talks in Paris on Saturday.

The French Football Federation confirmed that their president Noel Le Graet had met Deschamps to discuss terms of a deal to replace Laurent Blanc.

Blanc stepped down from the helm of Les Bleus following the fall-out of their Euro 2012 quarter-final exit to eventual winners Spain.

So Didier Deschamps takes the poisoned chalice that is the French national team coach job. Both the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 have been overshadowed by in-fighting in the ranks and though Laurent Blanc was apparently offered a new deal the former Bordeaux boss turned down the chance to continue in the job.

French midfield legend Zinedine Zidane was tentatively linked with the vacant post, despite having no senior managerial experience, but in the end the FFF turned to former Marseille boss Deschamps, who left the Stade Velodrome club by mutual consent earlier this month.
