Tottenham close in on £5m deal for Adebayor from Manchester City
Spurs have halved the champions’ initial asking price for the Togolese striker, who scored 17 league goals for the White Hart Lane outfit on loan last season
Tottenham are closing in on a £5 million deal to sign Emmanuel Adebayor on a permanent transfer from Manchester City, Goal.com can reveal.
Sources at City expect the deal to be completed within days as they look to free up their wage budget and space in their squad to make a move for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie.
Tottenham were apparently initially unwilling to meet Emmanuel Adebayor’s £170k a week wages but perhaps having only paid £5m for the Togo international Daniel Levy feels he can warrant meeting such demands.
Make no mistake signing a player of Adebayor’s obvious talent for just £5m is an absolute bargain. The former Arsenal man was Tottenham’s most effective attacking weapon but as well as scoring goals the 28 year old showed last term that he is also a key provider, laying on 11 assists in Premier League action alone.
Andre Villas-Boas would do well to look for other potential striker signings because at present the North London club are very light on options, with only Jermain Defoe available as a recognised senior striker.
Tottenham fans will no doubt revel in the side-affects of such a transfer as it would appear that offloading Adebayor offers Roberto Mancini space to further his advances for Arsenal skipper Robin Van Persie.
