Chelsea Look to Continue Spree With Move to Sign AC Milan Forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Roman Abramovich looks to bring another ‘marquee’ signing to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Chelsea are set to make an ambitious offer to sign AC Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic according to Calciomercato. The Swede is apparently being lined up as a replacement for Ivory Coast forward Didier Drogba, who left the West London club this summer.

Ibrahimovic has spent two successful seasons at AC Milan, the first on loan from Barcelona and the second following a £21m move from the Nou Camp to the San Siro. The powerfully built forward had his most prolific season to date last term, notching up 35 goals in all competition, though this was not enough to help the Rossoneri to retain their Serie A title.

Chelsea could well be in the market for another attacking option and have been linked with a myriad of targets in this regard, the most frequently referenced being FC Porto striker Hulk.

Roberto Di Matteo has seen the aforementioned Drogba leave as well as adaptable attacker Salomon Kalou and there are still concerns about Fernando Torres as the Spaniard is still to come anywhere near justifying the £50m fee paid to Liverpool for his services with the Spaniard managing just 12 goals in 67 appearances for the West London club.

Chelsea have already flexed their financial muscles this summer, bringing in Belgian playmaker Eden Hazard and German winger Marko Marin for a combined fee of around £38m and it will take a fairly sizable fee to persuade AC Milan to sell Zlatan Ibrahimovic, regardless of whether the player himself attempts to force the issue by handing in a transfer request.

Blues owner Roman Abramovich is looking to improve a squad that may well have captured their maiden Champions League triumph last season but still completed the Premier League season with their lowest finish in ten years, sitting in sixth spot some 25 points off both Man City and Man United.

Ibrahimovic’s size and stamina may well make him an ideal fit for the English top tier and there is no questioning the former Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan and Barcelona man’s ability. The 30 year old has racked up over 200 club goals, clinching seven domestic titles in three countries in the process.
