Liverpool Weigh Up £7.5m Bid For Real Madrid Misfit Esteban Granero

Reds keen on enforcer.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rogers is considering making an improved offer for Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero.

The Reds saw an initial £6 million bid rejected by the La Liga giants, reports the Daily Mail.

Granero has struggled for regular first team action since Jose Mourinho arrived at the Bernebeu and made just 17 league appearances last season, the majority from the bench.

The 25-year-old signed for Real from Getafe in 2009 by then boss Manuel Pellegrini. The box-to-box midfielder has made 67 league appearances for the Spanish Champions, scoring 4 times.

Rogers is keen to add more depth to Liverpool’s centre midfield, particularly after missing out on playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Merseysiders were left short of cover centrally last season when Brazilian star Lucas picked up a serious injury, leaving youngsters Jay Spearing and Jonjo Shelvey to cover.

Rogers is prepared to increase his offer for Granero to around £7.5 million to secure the Spaniard and Real are likely to be willing to sell, particularly if then can complete the transfer of Luka Modric from Tottenham in the next few weeks.
