Liverpool Boss Ready to Send Andy Carroll Out On Loan Spell

Is the Anfield striker on his way out?

Andy Carroll loan move a possibility – Brendan Rodgers

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says he would consider letting striker Andy Carroll go out on loan.
The 23-year-old England international has struggled to meet expectations since joining the club from Newcastle for a club record £35m in January 2011.

“It’s something I would have to look at, I have to be honest,” said Rodgers.

“Andy’s always going to be linked with clubs, whether he was here or not. He knows exactly where he stands, but I have had no inquiries about him.”

Carroll has been linked with a loan move to Italian side AC Milan, who were reportedly impressed by his displays at the recent European Championships, where he made three appearances for England and scored once, against Sweden.

Rodgers said: “There are many things to going on loan. Is it going to be beneficial for the club, that’s the most important thing?

“Sometimes a player going out on loan – in general, not just Andy – can benefit the club in the long term.”

It is fairly unusual for a manager to be quite so open about his intentions regarding a single individual but this is a fairly refreshing approach from the Anfield boss, but one that may well concern Andy Carroll. The former Newcastle United man has clearly struggled to make an impact at Liverpool but was certainly moving in the right direction towards the end of the last campaign and after a useful Euro 2012 the £35m man may have thought his place at the Merseyside club was safe.

AC Milan have been linked with Carroll but that deal seem unlikely, perhaps a loan move to another Premier League side is an option?

The scarcity of attacking options at Liverpool would surely mean that Carroll would be going nowhere unless one, or preferably, two new strikers were brought in. There has been talk of a probable move to the club for Roma youngster Fabio Borini, a player Rodgers knows well.

There is also speculation that Clint Dempsey is a genuine target of the Anfield side as well.
