Liverpool Set to Sign £7.5m Fulham Attacker Clint Dempsey Before Anfield Club Embark On US Tour

Craven Cottage star set to make Anfield move?

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to bid £7.5 million for Fulham’s American star Clint Dempsey in his first major transfer raid.

Rodgers wants to snap up Dempsey quickly and tie up a deal before the Kop fly to the shooting star’s homeland next week.

Fulham boss Martin Jol will be loathed to lose Dempsey but an offer of £7.5m for a player who appears open to a move away from Craven Cottage and has just a year left to run on his contract may be too tempting to turn down.

Dempsey notched up 23 goals in all competitions last term and is a player who can play in a number of positions and it’s this adaptability that appeals to Rodgers who is keen to beef up his Liverpool squad this summer. A move for the United States international may well also appeal to the Merseyside club’s owners who could see such a signing as useful to boost it’s standing in the North American market.

Rodgers has earmarked moves for a number of potential additions to boost his threadbare attack, that currently only includes three recognised strikers. One of which has failed to make an impact since his £35m move to the club, namely Andy Carroll. Another, Craig Bellamy, is clearly nearing the end of his career and may well work better in a wide role. This leaves Luis Suarez as the club’s only genuinely effective striking option.

Liverpool are also reportedly set to sign £8m Italian international Fabio Borini.

Dempsey can play in an orthodox striking role or in an advanced central midfield role behind those up front.
