Arsenal Hope Signing of £6m Barcelona Attacker Will Help Convince Van Persie to Stay

Emirates Stadium boss keen on Nou Camp midfielder.

ARSENAL and Tottenham are set to scramble for Barcelona playmaker Ibrahim Afellay after the Spanish club announced he would be put on the market.
The two Premiership clubs have shown interest in the Dutchman but as of now Barcelona have not wanted to sell him.

Now in a bid to raise funds for Jordi Alba and Javier Martinez, Barcelona are hoping to offload Afellay and Adriano.

Barcelona is expected to accept bids for Afellay of around £6million opening the door to both Arsenal and Spurs.

Arsene Wenger is keen to continue spending this summer, having already landed Lukas Podolski and Oliver Giroud, and a move for Barcelona attacker Ibrahim Afellay could be a sensible and cost effective one to make. The Dutch international has struggled to retain a spot in the Nou Camp first team and there are no signs that things will improve under new boss Tito Vilanova.

Arsenal could well do with more strength in depth but perhaps the pursuit of the former PSV Eindhoven man is a move to help persuade captain Robin Van Persie to stay at the club. Afellay is of course a national team colleague of the Gunners skipper and a player of real quality, albeit a player who’s career has stalled a little of late.

Afellay was part of Bert Van Marwijk’s Euro 2012 squad and has been a Wenger target previously and if the 26 year old could really be snapped up for just £6m then clearly it’s a bid well worth making.
