Manchester United & Chelsea Set To Miss Out On Benfica Midfielder Axel Witsel

Belgian staying in Portugal.

Manchester United and Chelsea target Axel Witsel is staying with Benfica according to the the club’s director of football, Rui Costa.

The midfield engine man had been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, with Spanish giants Real Madrid also said to be interested.

By Portugal legend Costa has insisted that the 23-year-old is going nowhere.

“Witsel plays for Benfica,” Costa told Portugese newspaper Record.

“He is doing pre-season training, and we look forward to the Eusebio Cup (a pre-season tournament) – not the transfer market.

“Logically, all who are in training are Benfica players.”

Former Standard Liege star Witsel made 1o appearances for Benfica in the Champions League last season, catching the eye as the club reached the quarter-finals where they were beaten by eventual winners Chelsea.
