Real want Silva.
Spanish Champions Real Madrid are refusing to give up on signing Man City playmaker David Silva, reports the Daily Star.
Real boss Jose Mourinho is desperate to sign Silva and is ready to test City’s resolve with a £40 million bid for the 26-year-old.
It is understood that the Premier League Champions will reject any approach from Real but their hand could be forced if Silva rejects a new contract and demands a move to Los Blancos.
Silva confirmed his status as one of the finest midfielders in Europe, starring as Spain claimed the Euro 2012 crown this summer.
If Silva does join Real, it would mean that every member of the Spain XI that started the Final in Krakow is on the books of either Barcelona or Real Madrid, highlighting the pair’s remarkable duopoly of La Liga.
Real remain interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur’s Luka Modric, 26, but are reluctant to pay Spurs’ £35 million asking price for the scheming Croatian and regard City winger Silva as better value for money.
Meanwhile, Yaya Toure has rejected interest from his former club Barcelona and expressed his delight that City boss Roberto Mancini has signed a new five-year deal at the Emirates.
“I was very happy to hear the news that our manager has signed a new five-year deal,” said the Ivorian.
“It means there will be no changes or disruption to what has proved a winning formula and for the long term, that can only be good for Manchester City.”
