Newcastle United & QPR In Talks to Sign Free Agent Junior Hoilett

St James’ Park and Loftus Road sides keen on former Blackburn Rovers man.

Junior Hoilett transfer: Newcastle and QPR open talks with wanted winger

Newcastle have joined QPR in opening talks with out-of-contract winger Junior Hoilett, after his proposed switch to Borussia Monchengladbach fell through.

Hoilett is a free agent after leaving Blackburn at the end of his contract last month and has had no shortage of interest after sparkling for Rovers last season.

The 22-year-old winger, who can also play up front, scored seven goals in 34 matches last term and grabbed six assists.

It’s not a surprise that there would be a succession of sides keen on youngster Junior Hoilett the moment he ran down his Blackburn Rovers contract and now it appears that Newcastle United & QPR are the main contenders to sign the youngster.

Alan Pardew will hope that the lure of a move to a Newcastle United side ‘on the up’ will help the Magpies to beat QPR to the punch. The St James’ Park side narrowly missed out on a top four finish and the Toon Army boss is keen to add to his over-achieving squad whilst holding onto the talents that helped the North-East side secure a fifth place finish last term.

Mark Hughes has already brought in Robert Green, signed Samba Diakate on a permanent basis and snapped up Man United midfielder Park-Ji Sung. The QPR boss has done great business thus far and a move to capture Blackburn Rovers youngster Junior Hoilett could further help the West London side consign last season’s relegation battle to the past.

QPR may well be aiming towards mid-table with the new additions they have brought in and the young Canadian could well add more creativity the club’s attack and is a player who has already proven he can make an impact at the highest level.

A tribunal fee is not likely to amount to a great deal, perhaps £2m max, and that could turn out to be a bargain. Borussia Monchengladbach were said to be close to signing the Blackburn Rovers man but perhaps the youngster has opted instead to stay in the Premier League.

Hoilett racked up 92 appearances during his three seasons in the Rovers first team.
