Royals pursue White Hart Lane star.
Jermain Defoe wanted to front new-look Reading strikeforce
Reading are contemplating a £5 million bid for Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe, as they look to further strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
However, Reading are not stopping there – manager Brian McDermott is keen to add at least another two players to his squad before the big kick-off, with Premier League experience a key factor.
Royals boss Brian McDermott was clearly keen to improve a squad that achieved promotion to the Premier League was probably not strong enough to retain a spot in the top tier and the Reading manager has since set about improving it in a most economically wise fashion.
Thus far the 51 year old has snapped up Garath McCleary, Nicky Shorey, Pavel Pogrebnyak and Danny Guthrie, all one free transfers and the former Arsenal man has once again conducted a good bit of business.
A bid to further improve Reading’s attack would make a great deal of sense and in Jermain Defoe they would have a proven Premier League marksman and a player keen to prove a point and looking to secure regular first team football and the England man could do both at the Madejski Stadium.
Defoe has netted wherever he has played and in two spells at Tottenham has amassed 118 goals in 299 appearances.
