Tottenham Boss Confirms Luke Modric Exit and Targets Top Pair Of New Recruits

White Hart Lane boss set for a busy summer of wheeling and dealing.

Andre Villas-Boas wants title and says Luka Modric is likely to go

New Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is aiming to bring the title to Spurs, but admits Luka Modric would be sold “for the right price”.

He also revealed he was interested in signing Porto midfielder Joao Moutinho.

Villas-Boas appeared to play down speculation that he wants a new goalkeeper to replace Brad Friedel, 41, but confirmed his interest in signing Emmanuel Adebayor and admitted that Moutinho is also a target.

He added: “He was one of the most important players in Euro 2012, he had a fantastic tournament and he’s an important player for Porto. It doesn’t mean he is the only target but he’s someone we look on with interest.

“Adebayor is another player who was important for last season and it will be a lie if I say we are not looking for a striker. Ade is part of that list.”

It’s been no secret that this summer Luka Modric has expressed his hope to leave White Hart Lane, much as he did a year ago, and Andre Villas-Boas’s decision to talk publicly about the Croatian leaving the club would appear to suggest that the 26 year old will leave the moment a club meets the North London club’s valuation.

Real Madrid and Chelsea are the two sides most often linked with the Spurs schemer and one would imagine that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, whilst keen to secure the best price for Modric, would prefer to sell to the La Liga side. Villas-Boas is at least safe in the knowledge that Gareth Bale is going nowhere after the Welsh winger signed a new four year deal.

Tottenham continue to track Emmanuel Adebayor but any move to sign the Togo international on a permanent basis may depend greatly on whether the former Arsenal man is willing to accept a reduced wage packet as the North London club will not want to meet his current £170k a pay packet on the grounds that such a salary may well leave others in the club’s squad wanting improved deals in line with his.

Joao Moutinho is also on Villas-Boas’s radar and clearly the Portuguese international is a player the former FC Porto boss knows well from his one season in charge of the club that saw Estadio Dragao side clinch a treble.

The talented midfielder may well be the ideal candidate to take Modric’s place this summer and could certainly be picked up for less than Tottenham accrue from the sale of the Croat.
