Arsenal & Liverpool Fight it Out for Spanish International Striker

Emirates Stadium and Anfield sides battle for Sevilla

ARSENAL and Liverpool are both targeting Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo, according to reports.

The 26-year-old, who started as a lone striker in Spain’s Euro 2012 semi-final clash against Portugal, is thought to have caught the eye of the Premier League duo.

Athletic Bilbao star Fernando Llorente had been a key summer target for both clubs, but it is his Spain team-mate who has now emerged as an exciting alternative, reports Spanish newspaper AS.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is likely to move for the former Real Madrid youth player once want-away striker Robin van Persie decides his future.

And new Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to replace Andy Carroll with a more mobile forward as part of his summer plans.

Having cost them close to £12million when they signed him from Real, Sevilla would be looking to make a sizeable profit if they were to let go of their star striker.

Alvaro Negredo has enjoyed three consistent seasons at Sevilla, netting 54 in the process, but may well be tempted by a move to the Premier League where this source believes Arsenal and Liverpool are ready to pounce.

New Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers has brought in Fabio Borini from Roma but could be ready to offload Andy Carroll and given Liverpool’s threadbare options the Merseyside club could well still be looking for further attacking support. The 26 year old former Real Madrid B striker got his career back on track during a successful spell at minnows Almeria prior to his move to Sevilla which has led to a sustained spell in the Spanish national team.

Negredo has netted six goals in 12 appearances for Spain and Arsene Wenger may well feel the need to bring in another forward despite the purchases of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud, especially if the Gunners are forced to sell Robin Van Persie this summer instead of opting to lose the Dutchman for free in a year’s time.

Negredo has finished top scorer at Sevilla for the past two seasons but after finishing last term in ninth the Madrid born forward could be ready to leave the Andalusian club.
