AVB rates Mexican.
Tottenham Hotspur’s new boss Andre Villas-Boas is desperate to hold on to winger Giovani Dos Santos amid surprise interest from Liverpool and La Liga.
The Mexican playmaker has spent a miserable four years at White Hart Lane, making just 17 league appearances since 2008 under former boss Harry Redknapp, who him sent the Mexican on loan three times.
The 23-year-old had looked set to finally leave north London this summer, with Atletico Madrid, Malaga and Liverpool’s new manager Brendan Rogers all admirers of the star.
But Villas-Boas is keen to hold on to the former Barcelona man, who is currently with the Mexican Olympic squad ahead of the London Games.
The Portuguese tactician believes Dos Santos will fit perfectly into his preferred 4-3-3 system as an attacking wing-forward and wants to give him a fresh start at Spurs. Villas-Boas has instructed chairman Daniel Levy to start fresh contract negotiations with Dos Santos, who is in the final year of his current deal in N17.
La Liga duo Malaga and Atletico have bid £5 million and £8 million respectively this summer but Spurs are now reluctant to sell, while Liverpool have also made tentative enquiries about the youngster.
Dos Santos already has 59 caps for Mexico, scoring 14 times and is consistently excellent for the national team.
Redknapp used Dos Santos sparingly, suggesting that if the forward could pass a night club as well as he could pass the ball, he would be a fantastic player.
