Arsenal Plot Move For £6m Barcelona Winger Ibrahim Afellay

Arsenal are interested in signing Barcelona star Ibrahim Afellay, reports Setanta.

The Dutch winger has publicly expressed his desire to stay at the Nou Camp but it is understood that new boss Tito Vilanova is prepared to listen to offers as low as £6 million for the 26-year-old.

Afellay’s agent, Rob Jansen, has admitted that his client is set to leave the Catalan giants, with Barca pusuing Athletic Bilbao ace Javi Martinez.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has long admired Afellay, who spent much of last season on the sidelines with injury but managed to force his way into the Netherlands Euro 2012 squad.

The wide man started every one of the Oranje’s three defeats in Poland and Ukraine but showed glimpses of the brilliance that persuaded Barcelona to sign him from PSV in January 2011.

Inter Milan are also chasing Afellay but Wenger is hopeful that the playmaker’s good friend Robin van Persie will help persuade him to choose north London rather than northern Italy – even if van Persie departs Arsenal himself this summer.
