Real Madrid to Hijack Chelsea Deal to Sign £6.5m Inter Milan Full-Back Maicon

Mourinho keen on Brazilian.

Chelsea could miss out on Maicon after Real Madrid stepped up their interest in the Brazilian full-back, according to Football Italia.

Maicon is set to leave Inter Milan this summer, citing his desire for a new challenge as motivation.

The 31-year-old has never played in either La Liga or the Premier League but looked set to complete a move to Chelsea after the European Champions agreed a £6 million fee with Inter.

But Madrid have since upped their interest in the pacy right-back and boss Jose Mourinho is now set to match Chelsea’s bid in an attempt to lure Maicon to the Bernebeu.

Missing out on Maicon would be a major blow for Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo who is desperate for a right-back after Jose Bosingwa was released. The Blues currently only have veteran Paulo Ferreira on their books and lost out to Newcastle in the race for France’s Mathieu Debuchy.

Inter are happy to allow Maicon to leave. The Italian giants are currently clearing out their squad with Diego Forlan and Lucio already moving to Internacional and Juventus respectively.
