Barcelona’s Ibrahim Afellay Rejects Lille, Fuelling Speculation He Is Holding Out For Arsenal

Dutchman snubs French.

Barcelona star Ibrahim Afellay has stated he wants to join a major European club after rejecting a move to French outfit Lille, reports Marca.

The Dutch winger has been linked with a move to both Arsenal and Inter Milan in recent weeks but the Ligue 1 club are the only team to have had a bid accepted – an approach Afellay promptly snubbed.

Barcelona are reportedly willing to sell the 26-year-old for as little as £6 million, as new boss Tito Vilanova looks to free up space in his squad for in-coming Atletic Bilbao enforcer Javi Martinez.

Afellay had previously stated his intention to remain with the Catalan giants but is now resigned to leaving the Nou Camp. The Netherlands international favours a move to a top Champions League club and would welcome concrete interest from the Gunners and Inter.

Afellay spent the majority of last season on the sidelines after suffering a major knee injury but proved his fitness in time for the Netherlands Euro 2012 campaign, where he started all three games before their dismal group stage exit.

The former PSV playmaker is good friends with Arsenal striker Robin van Persie and the north Londoners hope that van Persie can persuade Afellay to opt for the Emirates Stadium.
