Newcastle United Miss Out On One Transfer Target But £7m Full-Back Mathieu Debuchy Arrives At St James’ Park To Complete Move

Debuchy in; de Jong to Germany.

Newcastle have missed out on FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong but Lille right-back Mathieu Debuchy has arrived on Tyneside to complete a £7 million move.

Dutch star de Jong was Newcastle boss Alan Pardew’s top striking target but the 21-year-old has opted to join Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach, leaving the Toon to turn their attentions to Liverpool’s Andy Carroll.

De Jong was in Germany on Saturday to finalise a £15 million move, reports talkSPORT, after claiming last week that Gladbach were the ‘only’ club he wanted to join.

The blow has been softened by the news that French right-back Mathieu Debuchy has arrived on Tyneside to complete his much mooted transfer from Lille, according to popular Newcastle fanblog The Mag.

The 26-year-old is a France international and played every game at Euro 2012. The attacking full-back was coveted by Chelsea but has opted to join Newcastle after speaking to international teammate Yohan Cabaye, also formerly of Lille.
