Sunderland Lead Chase For Blackburn Rovers Midfield Enforcer Steven N’Zonzi

O’Neill eyes N’Zonzi.

Sunderland are leading the chase for Blackburn enforcer Steven N’Zonzi, according to Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old is desperate to play in the Premier League next season and was left out of Blackburn’s pre-season training camp in Austria as he attempts to finalise a move away from Ewood Park.

Sunderland have emerged as front runners for the Frenchman’s signature although it is understood the Black Cats are yet to agree a fee with Blackburn.

N’Zonzi was targeted by a host of clubs in January including Tottenham, Aston Villa, West Ham and Stoke City but opted to stay at Blackburn to help them fight relegation.

The energetic central midfielder has made 86 league appearances for Steve Kean’s side since arriving from Amiens in 2009 but has no wish to play in the Championship for the Lancashire club.

N’Zonzi has six caps for the French under-21 side and still harbours hopes of representing the senior team in the future.
