Former Magpies man looking to make St James’ Park return.
ANDY CARROLL wants a return to Newcastle if Liverpool force him out.
The England star has been left stunned by news that he is surplus to requirements at Anfield following Brendan Rodgers’ appointment as manager.
The £35m striker still holds out some hope that he will get the chance to impress his new boss and become part of his plans in a new-look Liverpool.
But Carroll knows the odds are stacked against him being a regular under Rodgers this season. Now he has made it clear that Newcastle would be his first choice of club if he does move on.
A close pal of the player, who has spoken to him since news broke of the Toon’s interest, said: “Newcastle are interested and Andy wants to come home. He’s told Liverpool that.
“From a professional point of view, Andy is miffed that he hasn’t been given the chance to show what he can do in front of new manager Brendan Rodgers. He ended last season on a high and wanted to continue that.”

So Andy Carroll’s ‘close pal’ says he wants to return to St James’ Park and Alan Pardew has made it clear the door is open so presumably there is a very good chance of such a move taking place and only the small matter of how much the Magpies are willing to pay for the 23 year old.
Though it shouldn’t be a factor one wonders whether the fact that Liverpool paid an over-inflated £35m for the Gateshead born forward could play a part in just how much the Merseyside club looks to make from his sale.
Pardew doesn’t appear to have any urgent need for a new striker, especially if he keeps Senegal international duo Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba, however the Newcastle United boss had been chasing Dutch youngster Luuk De Jong for some time before he completed his move to Borussia Monchengladbach, which could suggest that he knows that one of his star pair could be on their way out.
Or perhaps Pardew just wants to beef up numbers, he has after all offloaded Peter Lovenkrands and Leon Best, but then is Mike Ashley going to sanction a hefty bid for a back-up option? Seems unlikely.
Watch this space, this one could run and run all the way until August 31st.
