Newcastle United Set to Complete £9.5m Deal to Sign Bargain Buy Duo: Alan Pardew Set to Sign Mathieu Debuchy & Douglas

St James’ Park side set to secure talented pair.

NEWCASTLE are poised for a double breakthrough in the transfer market next week. .

While still hoping to sign Andy Carroll on a season-long loan from Liverpool, boss Alan Pardew is also closing in on Mathieu Debuchy of Lille and FC Twente defender Douglas.

Lille are ready to concede defeat in their bid to keep Debuchy. And though Inter are keen on the £6m-rated full-back, Newcastle are favourites to land him.

The Toon have also lodged a £3.5m bid for Brazilian-born Douglas, but any deal will not be finalised till late August, with the centre-half needing to stay in Holland while his application for Dutch nationality goes through.

Alan Pardew has done a fair bit of great transfer business since he took over from Chris Hughton at St James’ Park, his spending far outweighed by player sales so as to keep Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley happy. The Magpies boss has done so whilst also helping to push the North-East side to within touching distance of a top four spot last term and that may well be the added incentive needed to land top quality additions.

With that in mind a £9.5m outlay for French international Mathieu Debuchy and FC Twente man mountain Douglas is a potential bargain.

Newcastle United had looked likely to sign Lille full-back Debuchy before Euro 2012 and the performances the defender put in clearly slowed down the process, with the Ligue 1 side no doubt trying to get a bigger fee for the talented wide-man. Pardew needs the right back to replace Danny Simpson, who seems set to leave the club having failed to agree a new deal.

Brazilian born centre back Douglas will help add some much needed strength in depth at the heart of the Newcastle United defence, the current options being Fabicio Coloccini, Michael Wiliamson and Steven Taylor.

Douglas has been a mainstay of the FC Twente side for a few seasons now and is apparently set to leave the Eredivisie side this summer, Steve McClaren having already lost another Newcastle United target, Luuk De Jong, to Borussia Monchengladbach.
