Southampton Look to Break Transfer Record With £8m Bid for Dutch International Jeremain Lens

St Mary’s side set to spend big again.

SOUTHAMPTON boss Nigel Adkins is lining up an ambitious swoop for PSV attacker Jeremain Lens, 24.

But the Premier League new boys might have to break their transfer record for the second time this summer.

Saints have held talks with PSV over the versatile Dutch international.

He can either play wide or up front.

But they may have to pay as much as £8m to land his signature.

Southampton only recently broke their transfer record when they forked out £7m to sign Burnley forawrd Jay Rodriguez and it’s perhaps a testament to how much financial backing Saints boss Nigel Adkins is receiving that may mean that record is broken again this summer.

Having secured back to back promotions the South Coast side are clearly keen to improve their squad for the Premier League challenge that lies ahead.

Jeremain Lens is an experienced performer who could well add a cutting edge to the Southampton attack. The adaptable 24 year old has been a consistent performer at PSV over the past two seasons and was on the fringes of the Dutch Euro 2012 squad, narrowly missing out on selection for Ukraine and Poland.

If Adkins can lure Lens to St Mary’s he may well offer the club a direct attacking presence that could assist the club’s hopes of retaining their top tier status beyond this term.
