Tottenham In Talks to Sign £16m French International as Daniel Levy Looks to Bring Asking Price Down

French revolution: Spurs want Lloris to succeed Friedel as No.1 keeper

Levy trying to beat Lyon’s £16million valuation of a player that AVB hoped to sign for Chelsea last season down to around £12m

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has begun negotiations to land France captain Hugo Lloris.

Lyon keeper Lloris, 25, has seen his hopes of a move to White Hart Lane stall, because the French club are demanding £16million.

But Levy is trying to thrash out a £12m deal, which would allow Lloris to ultimately take over from 41-year-old Brad Friedel as Spurs’ No.1.

Whilst Tottenham may well be looking for a long term replacement for American Brad Friedel, are they likely to spend as much as £16m? Traditionally such sums are never attached to goalkeepers, and you could argue that is not fairly representative given just how important to a side they are, but nonetheless it seems highly unlikely the North London club would fork out such a sum for a custodian.

25 year old French international Lloris is a very able performer and a player that Lyon appear keen to cash in on after the Ligue 1 side failed to secure a Champions League berth for the coming campaign.

Much like moves for Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen, interest in Hugo Lloris pre-dates Andre Villas-Boas’s arrival at White Hart Lane and this is perhaps a sign of how the transfer business is conducted at Tottenham.

Lloris is the French national team captain and is pretty much a stone cold first choice starter for Les Blues but that still won’t get Lyon £16m for his signature.
