Stamford Bridge side chase Bundesliga hot-shot.
ESPN understands that Chelsea have had a £17 million bid for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski rejected.
Chelsea had been thought to be considering a £35 million bid for Napoli’s Edinson Cavani, but ESPN sources believe that not everyone at Chelsea is convinced that he is suited to the Stamford Bridge side.
The ESPN source says: “Chelsea have been offered Cavani, but not everybody at the club thinks he is the right player to suit their formation. The Polish centre-forward is the one the club bid for, but the offer was rejected.”
So the race for a striking addition continues. It appears there are few European forwards who haven’t at some time been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge but it appears that Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski is not going to be moving to West London, at least not at this price.
The 23 year old Polish international scored 30 goals in all competitions last term, including a masterful hat-trick against Bayern Munich in the DFB Pokal final, helping his side to a domestic double. Lewandowski then went on to have a decent Euro 2012, scoring the opening goal of the competition.
Given that Didier Drogba has left and Fernando Torres has been something of a major Chelsea flop it makes sense that the Blues would be looking for a new striker.
This source believes that Edinson Cavani is another player that has taken the Blues fancy but it will take a fee well in excess of the £17m offered for Lewandowski to land the Uruguayan.
