DONE DEAL: West Ham Confirm Signing Of Promising Teenage Keeper Raphael Spiegel

Hammers sign Swiss youngster.

West Ham have completed the signing of yet another goalkeeper, landing Swiss youngster Raphael Spiegel from Grasshopper Zurich according to the Daily Mail.

The 19-year-old is expected to provide cover between the sticks for fellow new recruits Stephen Henderson and Jussi Jaaskelainen, both of whom also joined the Hammers following the club’s promotion to the Premier League.

Spiegel is a Swiss under-20 international and has signed a three-year deal at Upton Park, with the option of a further year if he impresses.

Spiegel has also represented his country at U17, U18, U19 and U20 level and has already amassed a decent amount of first-team experience at club level, appearing 17 times for SC Bruhl SG in the Swiss Challenge League – the second highest tier in his homeland – last season. The previous two campaigns saw Spiegel play a combined 41 games for Grasshopper Club’s second team in the 1.Liga – the third tier of Swiss football.

The 6’3″ custodian is West Ham’s sixth signing of the summer, with George McCartney, midfielder Mohamed Diame and Mali forward Modibo Maiga also joining the east Londoners.
