Shelvey may go on season-long loan as part of Allen deal.
Liverpool are preparing to test Swansea’s resolve with a £10 million opening offer for pass-master Joe Allen, reports the Metro.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to be reunited with Allen, who he managed at the Liberty Stadium, and is willing to allow attacking midfielder Jonjo Shelvey to go the other way in a season-long loan deal.
Swansea boss Michael Laudrup has admitted that Swansea will consider a substantial bid, despite forcing a clause into Rodgers’ Anfield contract stating that he cannot sign players from the Swans for at least a year.
The south Wales club look likely to renege on the embargo however, and will allow Allen to leave the club but are thought to want closer to £12 million for the 22-year-old.
Central midfielder Allen is currently with Team GB preparing for the London Olympic Games and started as Stuart Pearce’s men lost 2-0 to Brazil in their only warm-up match on Friday.
Allen was the sixth most successful passer in Europe last season, with only the likes of Xavi, Phillip Lahm and Sergio Busquets ahead of the Wales international.
It is understood that Allen would welcome the chance to link-up with Rodgers again but will not force an exit from Swansea.
