Newcastle Enter Race For £14.5m Marseilles Forward Loic Remy

Toon set to rival Tottenham for forward’s signature.

Newcastle have entered the race for £14.5 million-rated Marseilles striker Loic Remy.

The Frenchman has been wanted by Spurs for some time but, with the north London outfit stalling on a bid, Newcastle are reportedly ready to pounce, reports the Daily Mail.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew is still keen on re-signing Liverpool forward Andy Carroll but faces losing Demba Ba for just £7 million, after Russian side Rubin Kazan reportedly met the Senagelese’s release clause.

Pardew is keen to find a replacement for right-wing flop Gabriel Obertan and likes the look of Remy, who can also play out wide.

The 25-year-old is interested in a move to the Premier League and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is also said to be an admirer.

And Remy hinted he is still hopeful of a transfer this summer, despite Spurs’ interest cooling.

“I am contracted to Marseille but if the club wants to sell me, there is not much I can do about it,” the France international told Sky Sports.

“The transfer window closes on August 31, so there is plenty of time [for a transfer].”
