Real assistant admits Modric interest but PSG ready to meet Spurs’ asking price.
Real Madrid face a fight to land top-target Luka Modric after PSG indicated a willingness to meet Tottenham’s £40 million asking price.
Modric is desperate to join the Spanish giants this summer but Real have so far only offered £27 million plus adds-on – a bid deemed unacceptable by Spurs.
Real’s assistant head-coach Aitor Karanka gave the biggest indication yet that the Spaniards want the scheming Croatian at the Bernebeu, telling AS: “Which club would not want a player like him?
“He is an outstanding footballer and had a great tournament [at Euro 2012]. It is clear that he would fit in Madrid.”
Spurs hand has been strengthened by mega-bucks French outfit PSG, who have privately indicated they are prepared to meet the north Londoners’ valuation of Modric.
The Ligue 1 giants have already demonstrated their spending power this summer, landing Napoli’s Ezequiel Lavezzi and AC Milan pair Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Modric favours a move to Madrid but is aware that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will not be bullied into sanctioning a transfer, after the supremo blocked a move to Chelsea last summer.
Levy has fined the 25-year-old for refusing to participate in Spurs pre-season tour of the USA and it is understood that the former Dynamo Zagreb midfielder has since apologised to his chairman.
