Dos Santos wants return to Spain.
Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has slammed Mexican forward Giovani dos Santos for saying he wants to quit White Hart Lane, reports the Sun.
The 23-year-old has endured a miserable four years in N17, making less than 20 league appearances for the Lilywhites and spending three different spells out on loan.
The winger, who is currently on Olympic duty with Mexico, was thought to be eyeing a fresh start under the Portuguese tactician, who replaced Harry Redknapp as boss earlier this month.
But instead, the former Barcelona star has ruled out staying in north London when his current deal expires in 12 months.
Villas-Boas believes dos Santos was unwise to speak out against his employers.
“I am not sure what Gio’s thought process was, coming out with a statement like that,” he said.
“The player is contracted to the club. We respect him and are counting on him to return to club duty.
“Then we will make a decision that is best for the club.”
It is believed that Villas-Boas is now prepared to sell the young playmaker, with Malaga eyeing him as a replacement for Arsenal-bound Santi Cazorla.
Dos Santos is the second player in quick succession to speak out against Spurs, after former player Niko Kranjcar criticised the club for refusing to allow Luka Modric to join Real Madrid.
