Fulham Look to Complete £1m Arsenal Bargain Buy

Craven Cottage side keen on Emirates Stadium star.

Fulham have registered an interest in signing Andrey Arshavin from Arsenal. The 31-year-old is assessing his options after being told by the Gunners he is surplus to requirements for the forthcoming campaign.

Arshavin’s former club Zenit St Petersburg are keen on bringing him back to Russia but want the player to publicly express his desire to return and Standard Sport understands he would prefer to stay at Emirates Stadium.

Arshavin is reluctant to leave but is slowly becoming resigned to the fact he will get precious little first-team football at the club.

Arsenal are willing to let Arshavin leave for as little as £1million given he has just one year left on his contract and the fact they earned a £1m loan fee from Zenit as part of their agreement earlier this year.

If Fulham could sign a player as talented, albeit inconsistent, as Arsenal winger Andrei Arshavin for just £1m then they would have secure done hell of a bargain buy. Given that the North London club spent a club record £15m on the Russian international would they be open to selling the 31 year old for such a small fee three and a half years later?

Whilst clearly Arshavin is not the player he once was, in fact he has never come close to replicating the form he showed in Euro 2008, which led to his move from Zenit to North London, however he still has a point to prove and according to this source the player’s wife is keen to remain in London over any possible permanent move back to Russia and clearly a move to Craven Cottage wouldn’t result in the massive upheaval of a troubling move.

Martin Jol may well need to bring in more creative options, especially if Clint Dempsey is lured away from the West London club.

Arsene Wenger probably feels he has more than enough wide options, with the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ryo Miyaichi, Gervinho and new signing Lukas Podolski all effective on the flanks, that said the Gunners would surely demand a higher fee for Arshavin, even with his contract counting down.
