Liverpool Agree £7m Deal to Sell Italian as Rodgers Lines Up £9m Bid for New Midfield Maestro

Anfield side set for midfield switch.

Liverpool have agreed to offload Italian flop Alberto Aquilani to Fiorentina for £7million, according to The People.

Kop boss Brendan Rodgers shipped out the midfielder to the Serie A side as he quickly looks to put his own stamp on the squad.

Aquilani has been a disaster for Liverpool since arriving for £20m from Roma in 2009. After struggling for fitness and form, he was loaned out to AC Milan last season.

The midfielder has played in a couple of pre-season games but did not figure in Rodgers’ plans for next season. Rodgers also wants to make way for a new midfield capture – and 28-year-old Aquilani’s £100k-a-week wages going off the payroll will help.

The new Anfield chief is keen to push on with a bid for Swansea’s Team GB midfielder Joe Allen but will not meet the Swans’ £15m valuation.

Rodgers hopes he can land Allen for around £9m and find a way round his ‘vow’ of not going back to the Welsh club for players. The Allen move will also be difficult as Swansea want a replacement teed up first.

Brendan Rodgers had stated that loaned out pair Joe Cole and Alberto Aquilani were starting with a clean slate and that both still had the chance to force their way into the first team picture. However it does appear that Italian international Aquilani has his heart set on a permanent move back to Serie A and a move to Fiorentina is apparently on the cards.

Though Liverpool did fork out £20m for the midfielder a fair chunk of that fee was never paid due to incremental portions of the original deal that were never met, therefore £7m may be an acceptable offer to the Merseyside club’s owners, who may be keen to finally offload the 28 year old.

Rodgers is keen on Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen and seems to be ready to move in for the kill to land his former charge and perhaps £9 is a fee that the Liberty Stadium side will agree to, especially if the Welsh international pushes for a move to Anfield.

The 22 year old pint sized performer had an excellent first season in the top tier but may feel that ambitions he has can not be reached by remaining at Swansea City.
