Tottenham Agree £36m Real Madrid Deal to Sign Midfielder Luka Modric

White Hart Lane man Bernabeu bound.

TOTTENHAM last night agreed a £36million fee with Real Madrid for Luka Modric.
The Croatia midfielder had already said he would join Jose Mourinho’s side but was waiting for the clubs to reach a deal.

He almost ruined his chances of a move by refusing to go on Spurs’ pre-season tour.

But Real officials persuaded him to apologise and return.

Madrid were reluctant to meet Spurs’ valuation but Mourinho wanted Modric as soon as possible.

The deal will bring an end to a saga which began when the 26-year-old demanded a move to Chelsea a year ago.

This transfer saga seems to have rumbled on for weeks now but it seems Tottenham are nearing the end game and according to this source the North London club have reached an agreement that will see Croatian Luka Modric move to the Bernabeu this summer.

The talented midfielder wanted to leave White Hart Lane last summer but was prevented from doing so by chairman Daniel Levy, who was none to impressed with the tactics the 26 year old has used to force through a move away from the club. Tactics that have included not turning up for pre-season training.

Jose Mourinho has been tracking Modric for some weeks now but his Real Madrid side ha hitherto failed to make an offer that Tottenham were amenable to, that issue seems to have been resolved.

Andre Villas-Boas will no doubt want the sale pushed through as early as possible so that he can look to replace the talented schemer, though the purchase of Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson does offer Tottenham a forward thinking midfield option he is perhaps not a like for like replacement and no doubt the young Portuguese boss is keen to spend some, if not all, of the funds made from the sale to help bring in a ‘marquee’ signing.

One does wonder quite how Modric will break into Real Madrid’s midfield given the amount of quality players that are already bench bound. The likes of Mesut Ozil, Xabi Alonso, Nuri Sahin and Kaka are all vying for central midfield spots and places on the flanks are even more eagerly contested.
