Emirates Stadium side look to tempt La Liga side into sale.
Arsene Wenger will step up his attempts to land Spanish target Santi Cazorla by looking to offer Malaga a fee in the region of £15m plus Danish forward Nicklas Bendtner as part of a deal that he hopes the La Liga club’s Qatari owners will be willing to accept.
Arsenal have made their intentions clear with regards to their interest in the 27 year old attacker and the signs are that the La Rosaleda sign are open to selling Cazorla in order to balance the books. The club’s owners bankrolled the club last summer, bringing in a raft of new players who in turn helped Malaga to book their maiden spot in the Champions League, but this came at a price.
Now Malaga must look to balance the books and appear to have elected to sell one high profile player in preference to the offloading of a collection of less bankable members of Manuel Pellegrini’s squad.
Cazorla had a very productive first season at Malaga following his £16.3m move from Villarreal, netting nine La Liga goals and providing a healthy number of assists.
The inclusion of Gunners forward Bendtner into the deal may well tempt Pellegrini given that his Malaga squad does not possess all that many goal-threats, indeed last term despite securing a fourth place finish the club’s top-scorer, Venezuelan Salomon Rondon, managed just 11 in all competitions.
Bendtner spent last season at Sunderland and enjoyed a relatively successful spell at the Stadium of Light but seemingly Martin O’Neill passed on the opportunity to bring the 24 year old to the Stadium of Light on a permanent basis.
Arsene Wenger left the 6ft 5in forward out of Arsenal’s Asian tour squad and has since stated his intention to sell the forward, perhaps a move to La Liga would interest the Dane who could perhaps look to start afresh after seven years at the Emirates Stadium during which time he has never been considered a regular.
