Gareth Bale Brands Liverpool Midfielder Charlie Adam ‘A Coward’, After Second Reckless Challenge

Bale slams Adam after being left injured for a second time.

Tottenham winger Gareth Bale has labelled Liverpool’s Charlie Adam ‘a coward’ after being clattered by the Scotland midfielder for the second time in two years.

Bale was sidelined for three months after a horror challenge by Adam – then with Blackpool – in 2011. And the Welsh wing-wizard has slammed the Anfield star after again being left on crutches by Adam, this time during a pre-season friendly.

“He’s a bit of a coward,” the Team GB absentee told the BBC.

“It’s flattering if players try to take you out in a game but when it threatens your career it becomes more serious.

“What he did was over the top,” Bale insisted. “Some people are like that and it’s just wrong.”

Adam prematurely ended Bale’s 2010/11 season with a reckless lunge that left the former Southampton man with ankle ligament damage and the Scot was guilty of a similar challenge – from behind and with no chance of winning the ball – during the goalless draw in Baltimore.

Bale added that Adam has not apologised, nor will he accept any forthcoming apology.

“There are pictures on the internet of what he did before when he snapped all my ankle ligaments. I was out for three months that time. He’s come for me twice now – and he’s got me twice.

“When someone makes a very bad tackle on you, you expect an apology. I’ve had no apology. And I’m not going to accept his apology.”

Spurs full-back Kyle Walker joined the condemnation of Adam and added: “Gareth is a very good player. He needs protection.

“Players shouldn’t hate him. They should appreciate playing against a player like him. They can actually learn from him rather kick him.

“It’s simple. He [Adam] is jealous, as Gareth is such a good player.”

There is increasing tension between the clubs after Spurs poached midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson from Liverpool. It is also rumoured that the pair are set to go head-to-head for Team GB star Joe Allen, and are both interested in Bologna playmaker Gaston Ramirez.
