Anfield side keen on Fiorentina man.
Liverpool are hoping to secure a deal to sign Fiorentina defender Juan Manuel Vargas.
Vargas, 28, has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield and reports in Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claim a deal could be finalised in the next week.
Brendan Rodgers is still looking to bring in at least three more players as he looks to build his own squad and make them genuine contenders for a top four finish.
Liverpool have long been linked with Peruvian Vargas, who is adept at playing anywhere on the left hand side, and clearly the possible sale of Alberto Aquilani to Fiorentina will help to seal a move for the 28 year old wide-man.
Brendan Rodgers has already brought in Fabio Borini from the Italian top tier and will look to repeat the trick as he pushed to secure a deal to sign the experienced wing-back who has spent the last six years in Italy, first with Catania and then for the past four years in Florence.
Currently the Anfield side depends on Jose Enrique as the defensive option on the left flank who more often than not had Stewart Downing ahead of him last term. Whilst the Spaniard performed excellently in his first season at the Merseyside club it’s fair to say that the former Aston Villa winger offered little in the way of end product.
Perhaps therefore moves to land Vargas are geared to keep the England man on his toes as clearly if his first season form continues in 2012/13 then Rodgers may well look to replace the misfiring wide-man.
