Manchester United Target Lucas Moura Set For Bumper New Sao Paulo Contract

United’s hopes of signing wonderkid dashed.

Manchester United’s hopes of landing top-target Lucas Moura have been dealt a blow by the news that Sao Paulo are preparing to offer the youngster a new deal.

The Red Devils have been chasing the 19-year-old Brazilian all summer and saw a £26.5 million bid rejected last week – with Sao Paulo holding out for closer to £35 million.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted his admiration for the right-winger, who is currently in the UK with Brazil’s Olympic squad.

Lucas has refused to discuss his future until after the Games but Sao Paulo’s director of football, Adalberto Baptista, has claimed Lucas could sign a new bumper deal with the South Americans.

Baptista told UOL: “It’s possible we change his contract. He has four more years of contract. We may call him to extend, renegotiate his contract, maybe for 18 more months.”

Baptista also denied reports that Lucas’ parents had travelled to London to discuss a possible ove to United, insisting they are in the UK to watch their son at the Olympics.

“His family went to England just to watch the Olympics, they had already told us they would,” he added.

“They want to follow their son, like any parents would in a competition like that.

“There is no negotiation, no talks, anything.”
